HomeRoom is a Y Combinator-backed residential real estate marketplace that simplifies remote investing and makes renting more affordable. It connects investors who want a turnkey experience with renters looking for quality co-living: shared homes for three or more unrelated people. At the time of our work, the platform had 140 co-living homes in 25 cities, owned by 85 investors, and had housed more than 1,000 roommates.

The challenge

HomeRoom serves two very different users: renters searching for a room, and investors managing properties and their finances from far away.

What we built

We built the marketplace with Next.js, Loopback 4 and MongoDB: property listings, house and room detail pages for renters, and a CMS where the HomeRoom team manages properties and uploads financial reports for investors.
